This week we have settled into the daily routine of living an urban life and exploring Mexico City neighborhoods. We have wandered throughout our Condesa area and Roma Norte – sampled more fantastic coffee and pastry (the guava filled rolls at Lardo and Pasteleria Rosetta, Dio mio!), serene parks and gardens, contemporary art galleries and interesting odd museums.

Venturing south to Coyoacan, we came across the beautiful street named after a Nobel Prize winner for poetry, Francisco Sosa. His former home was open and it was stunning. A multi million dollar hacienda with expansive gardens and rooms full of odd electronic inventions on display. Further east, the quaint cobblestoned street opened into a stunning pair of old town parks lined by posh restaurants and shops.

We also sought out in Chapultepec Park a very unusual cistern mural that was painted by Diego Rivera. It used to be underwater but it has been drained and is on display for the few that can find it. There is also an organ that plays haunting music that is generated by the underground flow of water through the pipes. In Central, we spent one morning exploring the Foro Valparaiso Bank Building and art collection. This was amazing! Mexican artists through time displayed in the most beautiful marble and wood surrounds. Huge rooms, graceful and elegant, full of art. This building included a double helix staircase rising to a cupola – the only one in the Americas and one of only several in the world.

And everyday, we delight in the search for this city’s best street food. Whenever we see a corner setup with more than ten people in line, we hit it. Yesterday as we remarked on a little torta stand we were eager to try, our young Uber driver overheard us and chimed in enthusiastically, “Es muy, muy bueno!”
